My Auto-Buy Authors

TOP TEN TUESDAY turns 10!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week, Top Ten Tuesday celebrates turning 10, and so I chose an old prompt from the archives to do this week - authors I always pre-order books from! These are my real faves, and authors I know I can depend on for a really great read.

1. Patrick Ness.

Chaos Walking is one of my all-time favourite series (you can read about more of my favourite series here) and made Patrick Ness an author I was desperate to read more of. And I’ve pre-ordered every one of his books since, and am yet to be disappointed.

2. Alison Croggon.

Originally I fell in love with Croggon’s writing because of the Books of Pellinor, but everything I’ve read since has also been a joy. From her fantasy reworking of Wuthering Heights to her latest MG adventure, her lyrical writing style is one I will always come back to.

3. Juno Dawson.

Juno had me after Clean, a YA novel about addiction and socialite life. I then pre-ordered Meat Market which was likewise excellent (and recently won the YA Book Prize!), and the most recent offering in the ‘London’ trilogy, Wonderland, is out now.

4. Alice Oseman.

Alice writes brilliant, diverse, nuanced books, and I’m yet to read one I don’t utterly love and adore. Solitaire was her first offering, which I loved, but really it was her second, Radio Silence, that made me realise Alice was an author I needed to read more of. And then she released Heartstopper and my tiny heart exploded.

5. Melinda Salisbury.

I started on Sin Eater’s Daughter and I just think that Mel is an author who has gone from strength to strength. Her latest book, Hold Back The Tide, is her best offering yet and really do make sure you get hold of a copy if you haven’t already. It’s suffered for being released during everything that’s gone on. It really deserves way more popularity and love than it’s got at the moment. That twist! That ending! I am shooketh.

6. VE Schwab

V is a queen. Everything I’ve read of hers has been a masterpiece. It’s always interesting, diverse, full of adventures and danger. Fantasy writing at its finest! Unless it’s Vicious, in which case it’s still magnificent but less fantasy. I cannot WAIT for Addie. The things I would do for a copy of that book.

And that’s it, really! I know it’s not ten, but I’m really quite fussy about authors that I auto-buy, so you know if the author makes the list then they must be pretty special!

What authors do you auto-buy? What is it that you love about those authors?
